The Internet Sensation Kid President Turned TV Show
If you are the one of many fortunate people to have encountered the internet sensation, Kid President, and his inspirational wisdom, you will be happy to know that the young and enthusiastic speaker has now landed a TV show on the Hub Network. The young inspirational speaker brought a positive message of unity in the midst of the 2012 U.S Presidential Elections when the nation needed it the most. The Kid President has demonstrated that even the youngest of citizens can share the greatest wisdom.
Kid President, aka Robby Novak, graced us with his presence on YouTube in July 2012 with his inspirational “Pep Talk” video (Montague, n.d). The video features several quotes of awesome such as, “We can make everyday better for each other. If we’re all on the same team, let’s start acting like it. We got work to do”(SoulPancake, 2013). The internet sensation known as Kid President began when 9 year old Robby Novak and his brother-in-law, Bradley Montague, began creating humorous videos for their family and then branched out to YouTube and SoulPancake (Ted.com, n.d). SoulPancake, has featured 19 Kid President videos on their website but the most popular has been “A Pep Talk from Kid President to You” (TED Talks, n.d). Furthermore, TED Talks report that the video was watched 6 million times in the first week that it was introduced to the online world.
Kid President’s positive message to the world in his famous “Pep Talk” video inspires viewers when he explains,”I’m just a kid but I know this, it’s everybody’s duty to give the world a reason to dance so get to it!” (SoulPancake, 2013). The Kid President claims no affiliation to any political party. He simply states, “I’m not in a party. I am a party” (TED Talks, n.d) The non-partisan Kid President is more than just an inspirational speaker. The Kid President has also interviewed guest stars on his show from SoulPancake’s founder, and star of the TV show, The Office, Rainn Wilson to the President of the United States, Barack Obama.
Novak’s internet fame has led to his own TV show featured on the Hub Network. Robert Lloyd of the LA Times promotes the Kid President’s show, Kid President: Declaration of Awesome, which airs on Saturday nights on the Hub Network. He explains that the show is a, “whole-family-friendly half-hour series, expanded from the short online ‘pep talks’ — at once mock-inspirational and actually inspirational — that made his name” (Lloyd, 2014) Montague explains what motivates the show; “We’re doing this because we believe kids can change the world. We also believe grown ups can change the world. It just takes all of us working together”(Montague, n.d).
The rise of Kid President shows the world that even the smallest voices can be heard and inspire millions. A positive message can go a long ways and bring hope to a nation. Surely, the Kid President’s new show will be a hit with his followers and spread a message of unity and a call to action. If Robby Novak is already such an influential speaker now, imagine what is next for the young inspirer in the future. Kid President’s collaboration between SoulPancake, YouTube, and the Hub Network will allow for a larger audience and, hopefully, more people doing good for the world.
